“Your legacy lives on:” Bhutto family remembers Benazir on her 17th death anniversary

On the 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, her family remembered her sacrifices for democracy and vowed to continue her legacy.

President Asif Ali Zardari remembered his late wife as a champion of people's rights and praised her resilience in strengthening democracy in Pakistan. He urged the nation to follow the principles she embodied to steer Pakistan toward progress.

“She was a trailblazer who dreamt of a Pakistan where the rights of all citizens, irrespective of colour, class, and creed, would be protected. She envisioned a Pakistan where every child could access education, where women could progress as equals, and where justice was not a privilege but a right.”

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and Benazir’s only son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, took to X to highlight the political values his mother instilled in him, which continue to guide him today.

“Today, we remember the unwavering courage and sacrifice of my mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Her vision for a democratic, just, and peaceful Pakistan continues to guide us. Your legacy lives on, and your people will never forget,” his post read.

Benazir’s youngest daughter and First Lady, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, said that her mother's absence still leaves a deep void, emphasising her commitment to promoting her mother’s legacy.

“Another year without you, and the ache never fades. Your laughter, love, and courage are missed beyond words. But your dreams for a just, democratic #Pakistan live on in every heart you touched. We carry your legacy with pride and pain. Rest in eternal peace,” she wrote in a post on X.
