Zilhajj moon not sighted in Pakistan, Eidul Adha to be celebrated on June 7

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Tuesday evening officially announced that the Zilhajj moon has not been sighted across Pakistan, confirming that Eidul Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Chairman of the committee, Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, made the announcement following a key meeting held in Islamabad to determine the beginning of Zilhajj 1446 Hijri.

He stated that since no credible testimonies were received from any part of the country regarding moon sighting, the first day of Zil Hajj will fall on Thursday, May 29. Consequently, Eidul Adha, which is observed on the 10th of Zil Hajj, will be celebrated on June 7.

Simultaneously, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees convened in various cities including Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar. In Lahore, noted Islamic scholar Mufti Ramzan Sialvi confirmed the absence of any moon sightings, reiterating that the final decision rests with the central committee.

In Karachi, zonal committee officials also confirmed that no testimonies of moon sighting were received from any district within Sindh province.

Eidul Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah, before Allah provided a ram to sacrifice instead.

The day also coincides with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.

Muslims across Pakistan will now prepare for Eid festivities, including the ritual animal sacrifice, charitable donations, and community prayers, set to take place on June 7, 2025.
