Pakistan’s telecom sector has reached a significant milestone, with the total number of telecom users exceeding 200 million and broadband connections surpassing 150 million, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) annual report for 2024–25.

The report highlights sustained growth, stability, and overall performance in the sector. Telecom coverage across the country now exceeds 92 per cent, while broadband penetration has surpassed 60 per cent.

Total revenue in the telecom sector has crossed PKR 1 trillion, reflecting a 12 per cent year-on-year increase compared to the previous year.

The sector’s contribution to the national exchequer has risen to PKR 402 billion, up from PKR 336 billion in 2024, while investment in the sector grew by 9 per cent to reach USD 828 million.

Expansion of telecom infrastructure has led to a total data usage of 27,727 petabytes in 2025. Around 95 per cent of cellular networks in Pakistan now support 4G, and international bandwidth availability stands at 17.21 Tbps.

To further strengthen regional connectivity, four new high-capacity submarine cables are being added.

PTA has also facilitated the implementation of national roaming and the expansion of telecom infrastructure across Pakistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The local production of mobile devices has accelerated, with over 95 per cent of mobile phones, including 68 per cent smartphones, being manufactured domestically.
