In a major move to curb the illegal use of mobile phones, Pakistani authorities have announced a nationwide operation to block devices with cloned or fake IMEI numbers.

The initiative aims to regulate the mobile phone market and tackle the rising circulation of counterfeit devices, which has increased due to high registration taxes on premium phones.

Mobile users will receive SMS alerts this week to verify their IMEI numbers. Failure to verify IMEI within a week will result in permanent phone blocking.

Once verified, the IMEI will be linked to the user’s SIM card, ensuring that only legitimate devices operate.

Devices with unverified or duplicate IMEI numbers will be blocked from the network.

Millions of users who unknowingly purchased counterfeit devices may be affected.

The FIA has urged users with blocked devices to contact sellers or visit the FIA office for assistance.

Consumers are advised to buy only FBR-taxed mobile phones to avoid inconvenience.

Authorities warn against purchasing phones that lack warranties or are sold at suspiciously low prices.

Buyers should verify the IMEI number before purchasing a phone to ensure compliance with regulations.

This crackdown signals a strict enforcement of mobile regulations, aiming to protect consumers and eliminate illegal phone trade in Pakistan.
