In a remarkable achievement, a talented student from Peshawar, Qaim Hasan Khan, has successfully developed Pakistan's first hybrid jeep that runs on both electricity and petrol.
"I have installed a 2.2 kW electric motor and a 2,000cc engine in the jeep," Hasan explained while talking to Dialogue Pakistan.
"On electric mode, it can run up to 60km on a single charge, which takes three to four hours to complete," he added.
Khan further informed that the jeep also features an automatic engine that kicks in after 60km, allowing it to run for an additional 35-40km.
Hasan said that his hybrid jeep offers three facilities: electricity, solar, and petrol.
"It takes three to four units of electricity to fully charge the battery, but it can also be charged without electricity using solar energy," he noted.
The idea of creating a hybrid jeep stemmed from Hasan's passion for participating in jeep rallies.
"I plan to use it for my hobby in the future," he said.
Earlier, the students of Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC) in Karachi developed the country's first electric car, named 'Azaad'.
The talented team designed and built the electric car from scratch, using a combination of iron, plastic, glass, fiber, and special tires for smooth movement.
Azaad can travel up to 200km on a single charge and charges in a remarkably short time, making it an eco-friendly and efficient mode of transportation.
