The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has dismissed reports claiming that internet services across the country will face disruption or slowdown on January 15, clarifying that nationwide connectivity remains stable.
In a statement, PTA officials said there was no truth to claims circulating on social media about a countrywide internet outage or slowdown on the specified date. The authority confirmed that no interruptions have been reported and that internet services are functioning normally across Pakistan.
PTA further stated that major upstream service providers, including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Transworld, are operating without any issues and no service degradation has been observed on their networks.
The clarification followed concerns raised after internet service provider Nayatel sent an email to its customers, informing them of scheduled maintenance work on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15, 2026, around 2pm. The email noted that the maintenance could take up to eight hours and might lead to temporary internet slowness, though it did not identify the specific cable or its location.
Addressing these concerns, PTA officials said routine maintenance on submarine cables is a standard practice and does not usually impact internet services nationwide. They assured users that no disruption is expected and that internet connectivity across the country will remain smooth and uninterrupted.
