WhatsApp, the world’s most widely used messaging platform, has introduced a built-in document scanning feature for Android users, making document sharing simpler and more convenient.
The feature allows users to scan documents directly within the app using their device’s camera, eliminating the need for third-party scanning tools. Previously available to iOS users, the option has now been rolled out to Android devices.
The scanning function is integrated into the document-sharing menu. Users can access it by opening the attachment menu, selecting the document option, and tapping the scan feature, which appears as the third option. Once selected, the camera opens, allowing users to scan physical documents.
After scanning, users can preview the document and make adjustments. The app automatically suggests margins, though users can manually adjust them if needed.
Once satisfied, the scanned document can be sent to individual contacts or group chats.
WhatsApp said the feature offers high-quality scanning, ensuring documents remain clear and readable. The update is expected to benefit users who frequently share official papers, forms or other documents through the messaging app.
