YouTube announced on Tuesday that it has fixed a problem that temporarily impacted the availability of the video-sharing service, following reports of a global outage on outage-tracking website Downdetector.

YouTube explained that a problem with its recommendation system had been preventing videos from loading on YouTube surfaces.

“The problem with our recommendations system has been fixed, and all of our services (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are now functioning normally,” YouTube announced.

At its peak, there were over 320,000 reports of problems with YouTube in the US, according to Downdetector.

The figures from Downdetector are user-submitted reports. The actual number of affected users may differ.

YouTube also experienced outages in other countries such as India, the UK, Australia, and Mexico, as reported by DownDetector.

YouTube had over 2.5 billion viewers worldwide as of the beginning of 2025, with its music and premium subscribers reaching 100 million, as reported by market tracker Statista.

Over a billion hours of YouTube videos are viewed daily on television sets alone, as reported by Google.

Over 500 hours of video content are uploaded to YouTube per minute, as reported by Google.

The acquisition of YouTube by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion in stock is seen as a turning point by analysts, as it brought together Google’s search and advertising capabilities with a video-sharing site that had very loyal users.
