A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a water tanker near Habib Chowrangi in Karachi's SITE area on Thursday, as fatal heavy vehicle accidents continue to claim lives in the city.

According to rescue officials, the motorcyclist came under the tanker and died at the scene. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

The deceased was identified as Tauseef, and his family has been informed of the incident, officials said.

According to rescue data released on July 1, 480 people were killed and 5,747 injured in traffic accidents across Karachi between January 1 and July 1, 2026. The figures show that the fatalities included 369 men, 55 women, 43 boys and 13 girls, while the injured comprised 4,358 men, nearly 1,000 women, 290 boys and 98 girls.

A statement issued by the Chhipa Foundation said 154 people were killed in heavy vehicle-related accidents during the same period. Trailers were involved in the highest number of fatal crashes, claiming 73 lives, followed by water tankers (41 deaths), buses (17), Mazda trucks (15) and dumpers (8).

The latest incident comes despite repeated claims by the Sindh government and Karachi Traffic Police that the introduction of an e-challan system and increased camera surveillance have led to a significant reduction in traffic accidents across the city.
