A matric student in Azad Kashmir reportedly jumped into a river in despair after failing his board exams. His elder brother also leapt into the water in an attempt to save him, but tragically, both drowned.
The deceased have been identified as Kashif (the younger brother) and Waqas (the elder brother), residents of the Daran neighborhood in the Chakthi area.
After the brothers went missing amid the river’s strong currents, local residents alerted authorities. Rescue 1122 reached the spot and launched a search operation to recover their bodies.
A TikTok video filmed by Kashif about an hour before the incident has gone viral. In the video, he is seen reciting a piece of poetry in which he hinted at an untimely death, saying he might die young.
Social media users lamented the undue pressure placed on children for academic achievement and cautioned parents that it often makes children's lives unnecessarily difficult.

In February, a similar incident occurred in Azad Kashmir’s Hattian Bala district where a seventh-grade student allegedly took her own life, reportedly due to academic struggles.
The young girl had failed her exams for two consecutive years, which, as per initial police investigations, left her deeply distressed. Authorities suspect that the emotional burden of repeated failure may have led to her drastic decision.
