Couple shot dead after freewill marriage in Karachi's Malir

A couple, who reportedly contracted a freewill marriage, was shot dead in the Malir area of Karachi on Monday.

According to media reports, the incident took place within the limits of the Saudabad police station. The police found the bodies of the couple on the back seat of a vehicle.

Police officials said that unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle. Several bullet marks were also found on different parts of the car.

They said that the couple had left the Malir district court after contracting a freewill marriage and were travelling through Malir when they came under attack.

The police further revealed that a case had previously been registered against the couple at Sachal police station following their marriage.

Initial investigations suggest the couple had eloped and married against family wishes. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
