For the first time in Pakistan, a transgender person has been included in the central cabinet of a political party.

Dr Mehrub Moiz Awan was included in the central cabinet of Awami National Paty during intra-party elections held at the Bacha Khan centre. 

Dr. Mehrub Moiz will serve as Secretary of Rights to ensure transperson services.

Mehrub Moiz Awan obtained a Masters degree in Public Health from a university in Washington D.C. and later acquired an MBBS degree from Khyber Medical University, Peshawar.

Currently, Mehrub Moiz Awan is also serving as the Director of Policy and Gender at Gender Interact Alliance. Previously, she has served at the World Bank and various hospitals.

Mehrub Moiz Awan has no brothers and has six sisters, all of whom are doctors. Speaking to Geo News, Mehrub Moiz Awan expressed gratitude for the continuous support of her parents throughout her life, attributing her success to their support.
