The Sindh High Court granted bail to Muhammad Irfan, the primary suspect in the murder case of 17-year-old Jazlan, on Monday.
The court ordered Irfan to submit a surety bond of Rs1 million for his bail.
Previously, the trial court had denied Irfan's bail request in June 2024; however, the High Court approved it, citing significant delays in the proceedings. Out of 27 witnesses for the prosecution, only one had provided testimony after more than two years.
The court acknowledged that the accused had no previous criminal history or record of habitual offenses.
The case originated from a dispute that escalated during a motorcycle race on Karachi’s Super Highway, resulting in the tragic shooting of Jazlan.
Muhammad Irfan is charged with murder, which followed a confrontation between him and Jazlan.
The victim, an orphan at 17, was fatally shot in a private housing society near Karachi’s Super Highway after he attempted to stop a group of boys from racing their motorcycles.
According to police reports, Jazlan was driving his car when a teenage suspect named Hasnain, along with a friend, was riding a motorbike erratically in the society.
Following this, Hasnain summoned his older brother and other friends, who then opened fire on Jazlan.
The young man sustained severe gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
