KARACHI: The administration of Karachi has placed a restriction on double parking on the city's busiest thoroughfares to tackle the increasing traffic congestion.
This decision arose during a meeting led by Commissioner Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, who highlighted the necessity for improved traffic management and the enforcement of paid parking rules.
At the meeting, DIG Traffic Karachi Ahmed Nawaz noted that there are presently 201 paid parking zones in Karachi, with approximately 130 situated on major roads.
However, the existence of unauthorized and double-parking areas, especially in the South District, has significantly contributed to the escalating traffic problems, he mentioned.
The DIG Traffic further stated that these illegal parking areas are severely disrupting the traffic flow in the city.
It was collectively agreed in the meeting that authorities will ensure compliance from parking contractors with the established regulations, and those who violate the rules will face permit revocation.
Both the district administration and the traffic police are expected to collaborate to enforce these regulations effectively.
