Karachi couple arrested for throwing newborn girl from building window

KARACHI: In a tragic incident in the Chakra Goth area of Karachi, a newborn baby girl was reportedly thrown out of a third-floor window by her parents, allegedly out of anger for not having a son.

According to police, local residents alerted authorities after witnessing the couple throw the infant from their apartment window. The baby died on the spot.

Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, arrested both parents, and transferred them to the police station for questioning.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the act.

Police said preliminary findings suggest the crime was motivated by gender-based frustration. However, they added that psychological and social factors would also be examined during the inquiry.

This heartbreaking case mirrors a similar incident in 2023 in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area, where a woman named Sana allegedly threw her newborn daughter from a multi-storey building, resulting in the child’s death.

Police at the time described the woman as mentally unstable and struggling with addiction.

Authorities have once again condemned the recent case, calling it a disturbing reflection of deep-rooted societal issues surrounding gender bias and mental health awareness.
