A tourist man was burned to death and dragged through the streets by an enraged mob for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran in Madyan area of Swat on Thursday night.

The victim, who had come to visit Swat Valley from Punjab, was subjected to torture by local residents. They tortured him while he was naked, set him on fire, and threw stones at his burning body.

Social media is flooded with disturbing videos showing the brutal attack on the tourist by assailants.

According to reports, police initially rescued the man from the mob's torture. However, a local mosque used its loudspeaker to announce that a "blasphemer" was being sheltered at the police station.

The mob stormed the police station, dragging out the victim before setting the building on fire. Eight police officers were also injured in the attack.

Local residents said that the police fired upon them, injuring 11 civilians.

Health authorities reported that three individuals were injured and taken to the hospital.

Tensions are high in Madyan and surrounding areas. Officials have imposed restrictions on movement under Section 144 of Pakistani law and the police are authorised to shoot anyone who violates the restrictions.

Upon learning of the incident in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur contacted the Inspector General of Police by telephone and asked for a report on the incident.

CM KP lamented the unfortunate incident and appealed to the citizens to remain peaceful.
