The body of a woman who fell into an open drain along with her minor daughter near Bhatti Chowk in Lahore was recovered early Thursday.

Police confirmed that the body was recovered from the disposal station on Outfall Road.

Soon after reports of the woman and her daughter falling into the open sewerage line began circulating on social media, the Punjab government reportedly termed them fake.

The woman’s husband was also taken into custody after he claimed that his wife had fallen into the sewerage line along with their daughter at around 7:30pm.

The recovery of the woman's body confirmed the veracity of the incident, triggering outrage on social media.

In a now-deleted X post, columnist Ammar Masood quoted Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari terming the incident fake.
