In yet another incident of animal cruelty in Pakistan, a pregnant donkey was shot dead by influential persons over a minor dispute with the animal's owner in Rawalpindi.

According to the details, the heartbreaking incident occurred amidst a heated dispute over tree-cutting in Mukhyal Chakri area of Rawalpindi on Monday.

Sources said that the donkey, which was three months pregnant, belonged to a local farmer, whose identity remains undisclosed.

A case was registered against the suspects at Chakri police station on the complaint of the owner of the slain animal.

The police have arrested 11 suspects allegedly involved in the heinous crime.

This incident is the latest in a series of animal cruelty cases in Pakistan.

On June 15, a feudal lord in Sanghar, along with six employees, tortured a camel and severed its leg with a sharp tool.

The 8-month-old camel calf was shifted to Karachi from Sanghar for treatment at CDRS Benji, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Just days later, on June 29, a female camel was found dead in Umerkot, Sindh, with all four limbs amputated.
