In an alarming turn of events, the Sarai Naurang Grid Station in Lakki Marwat was stormed by an angry mob of protesters.
This unrest stems from prolonged periods of load shedding affecting the Mamakhail feeder, according to the PESCO spokesperson.
Frustration among the residents had been building up over the unreliable power supply. This frustration reached a boiling point when protesters decided to take matters into their own hands. They forcefully entered the grid station, creating chaos and causing extensive damage.
Not only did they vandalize the grid station, but they also targeted the PESCO field store and the sub-division office. These facilities suffered significant damage as the mob hurled stones and destroyed property, throwing equipment and other items out of the grid station.
The spokesperson further elaborated on the critical issue, highlighting that the Mamakhail feeder is experiencing line losses exceeding 68%. This high rate of loss has been a significant contributing factor to the power outages.
As a direct consequence of the vandalism, the electricity supply across the city has been severely disrupted, adding to the residents' woes.
The local authorities are now faced with the daunting task of restoring the damaged infrastructure and addressing the root causes of the load shedding. The incident underscores the urgent need for solutions to improve the power distribution system and mitigate the suffering of the affected residents.
