Salman Farooqi, a businessman previously accused in a widely publicized assault case in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), has been cleared of all charges after the complainant retracted his statement.

The incident, which involved an alleged assault on a young motorcyclist in the presence of his sister, sparked public outrage after a video of the confrontation went viral on social media, prompting demands for legal action.

The case was heard on Monday at the City Court Karachi, where Gizri Police submitted a final investigation report recommending case closure under the “C-Class” category — typically applied when a complainant no longer pursues legal action.

According to the police report, the complainant confirmed through a written statement that Salman Farooqi did not misbehave with him or his sister, and that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding.

The victim also submitted an affidavit expressing his desire not to continue legal proceedings. In light of this, police dropped all charges, including allegations of issuing threats.

The court accepted the final police report into the case record and formally adjourned the matter, marking an end to the proceedings.
