KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to waive the first traffic fine issued under the new e-ticketing system, clarifying that repeat violators will have to pay penalties.

The Chief Minister was briefed by Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon regarding traffic violations detected through the e-ticketing system.

The report revealed that 35 government vehicles were fined for traffic violations including not wearing seat belts, jumping red lights, tinted windows, and mobile phone usage while driving.

During the briefing, DIG Traffic informed that a police vehicle (bearing registration number SP 950) was fined Rs10,000 after the e-ticketing system automatically detected two violations of seat belt rules on Garden and Lyari Expressway.

Following the report, the Chief Minister sought details of the first e-ticket issued under the system.

The IGP informed him that first-time violators can contact the traffic department within 10 days to seek a waiver of the fine.

The Chief Minister then directed that first-time offenders be exempted from paying the fine, but any subsequent violation must result in a penalty.

Murad Ali Shah asserted that traffic laws are meant for citizens’ safety, stating that “civilized citizens always obey traffic laws, and police are not above the law either.”
