Six cops, including an assistant sub-inspector, have been arrested for alleged sexual assault of a girl in a police station in Jacobabad.
The case was registered after Jacobabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Kaleem Malik carried out an inquiry into the allegations levelled by the victim in a video message.
Officials said that a preliminary medical report supported the claim and indicated that the girl was subjected to gang rape.
According to police, the victim was detained along with her sister and grandmother in connection with a murder investigation. The three were kept at the RD-52 police station in Taluka Thul for several days.
In a video statement, the SSP said he launched the inquiry on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police. The investigation found that six policemen assaulted the girl while she was in custody and that the incident occurred in the absence of the station house officer.
The girl was later shifted to Thul Taluka Hospital, where she was examined by a medico-legal officer. Medical samples were taken and sent for DNA analysis.
Following the findings, the SSP suspended all six officers and ordered their immediate arrest.
An FIR was lodged on the complaint of the victim’s grandmother. The case includes charges under Sections 375-A (rape), 344 (wrongful confinement for more than 10 days), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
