As elections are coming near in Pakistan, candidates nationwide are trying hard to convince them to vote for them on February 8.
One such video going viral on social media shows Pakistan People's Party's candidate Syed Naveed Qamar, who is contesting elections from NA-221, Tando Muhammad Khan, trying to convince his voters.
In the video, the voter can be heard saying to Naveed Qamar: "Thank you for showing up at least once in five years."
Pakistan, a Muslim-majority country of 241 million is about to vote in a civilian parliament for the third time in a row.
It is a first for a state where no prime minister has ever finished their term and, with a long history of military rule and dictatorship, it should be a moment to celebrate.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delegated first-class magistrate powers to the Presiding Officers to ensure the seamless execution of the general elections in 2024.
“All the Presiding Officers will have the powers of magistrate from February 7 to 9 in the upcoming general elections on February 8,” the spokesman of the ECP told APP.
The spokesman said that the Presiding Officers will be able to conduct trials on the spot besides the powers to be able them to proceed under Sections 169, 171 and 174 of the Election Act.
