Young girl killed by father, brother in the name of 'honour'

A young girl, named Mariya, was killed by her father and brother in an alleged case of so-called honour killing in Toba Tek Singh city of Punjab, police said on Wednesday.

The video of the harrowing incident, which took place on the night of March 17 and 18, also went viral on social media.

In the viral video, the brother could be seen strangling the 22-year-old to death, while her father was calmly witnessing the crime.

Another man, who was recording the video, told the man to show mercy on Mariya, but the father directed him to remain silent.

A woman was also seen in the video, who according to police is the sister-in-law of the victim.

Police said that the victim’s family, after committing the crime, buried the body in the nearby graveyard.

Both the accused were arrested and admitted to the murder, the police added.

However, the reason behind the gruesome murder is not confirmed yet and the police are investigating the matter.
