Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is considering appointing star batter Babar Azam as the national cricket team's captain in all-format again, sources said on Wednesday.
According to the sources, high officials within the cricket body are in favour of giving the reins of the cricket team to the 29-year-old cricketer.
PCB top officials have also contacted Babar in this regard, sources added.
Sources close to Babar said that the Peshawar Azam skipper is expected to meet the PCB chief to discuss his concerns before reassuming the top post.
However, Babar Babar Azam has not yet made up his mind about accepting or rejecting the captaincy offer, they added.
Currently, Shaheen Shah Afridi is leading the Pakistan team in the T20 format, and Shah Masood captains in the Test format.
After the World Cup 2023, the Green Shirts played the first T20 series against New Zealand under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi and the event concluded with Pakistan’s defeat, 4-1, to Kiwis.
However, cricket body officials are not happy with the performance of both format skippers.
