In a recent controversy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly refused to allow the name of the host nation, Pakistan, to be printed on the jerseys of the Indian cricket team during the ICC Champions Trophy.
According to Indian media, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official criticised the move, accusing the BCCI of politicising sports and slamming its decision to exclude Pakistan's name from the players' jerseys.
“BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don't want to send their captain for the opening ceremony, and now there are reports that they don't want the host nation (Pakistan) name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and support Pakistan,” a PCB official was quoted as saying.
India has consistently created hurdles for Pakistan in hosting international tournaments, refusing to travel to the country due to alleged security concerns, despite other foreign teams agreeing to visit Pakistan.
In a compromise, the PCB agreed to hold the India-Pakistan fixtures at a neutral venue in the UAE. However, despite such concessions, the BCCI appears determined to inject politics into cricket, provoking reactions from the other side.
Traditionally, cricket jerseys of visiting teams feature the name of the host nation during ICC events.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 fixtures and groupings were announced by the ICC on December 24 , with the tournament set to begin on 19 February in Karachi with the final on 9 March.
The eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches, and will be played across Pakistan and in Dubai.
In Pakistan, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will be the three venues to host tournament play. Each Pakistan venue will feature three group games apiece, with Lahore hosting the second semi-final.
Lahore will also host the final on 9 March, unless India qualify, in which case it will be played in Dubai. Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
The three group matches involving India, as well as the first semi-final, will be played in Dubai.
