Indian cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant have apologised to South Africa captain Temba Bavuma following an incident during a Test series in which he was allegedly referred to as a “dwarf”.
The incident triggered widespread discussion on social media.
However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) did not take any disciplinary action against the Indian players.
Speaking about the matter, Temba Bavuma said he was aware that some comments had been made about him by Indian players in their own language. He added that two senior players later approached him and offered an apology.
Bavuma said that at the time of the apology, he did not fully understand what the issue was. He later confirmed the details after speaking to his team’s media manager.
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant were caught on the stump mic with a surprising remark during the opening day of the first Test against South Africa here at the Eden Gardens.
Both players’ chat went viral as they called South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma ‘Bauna’ (Dwarf), a term referring to a person of short height
