The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined South African batter Heinrich Klaasen 15% of his match fee for kicking the stumps in frustration after his dismissal during the second ODI against Pakistan.
The incident occurred in the 43rd over of South Africa’s chase of 330, where Klaasen scored a valiant 97 off 74 balls but lacked support from the other end, leading to an 81-run loss for the Proteas.
According to an ICC statement, Klaasen breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct under Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment or fixtures during an international match.
In addition to the fine, one demerit point was added to Klaasen’s disciplinary record. Match Referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanctions.
Klaasen’s effort with the bat stood out for South Africa, but his dismissal left the team with no hope of chasing the target.
Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, played key roles in defending their total. Shaheen claimed 4/47, while Naseem bagged 3/37 in 8.3 overs. Spinner Abrar Ahmed contributed with two wickets.
Earlier, Pakistan’s innings was bolstered by fifties from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, while Kamran Ghulam’s late surge with a 32-ball 63 helped the visitors post a challenging total.
With the win, Pakistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final ODI scheduled in Johannesburg on December 22.
