The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a financial penalty on the Indian cricket team for maintaining a slow over rate during the second One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Raipur on December 3.
According to an ICC statement, India were found two overs short of the required rate at the end of the innings. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. Consequently, the Indian team was handed a 10% deduction from their match fees.
Indian captain KL Rahul accepted the charge and the sanction imposed by match officials.
The match in Raipur saw South Africa successfully chase a daunting 359-run target, securing a four-wicket victory over the hosts. India’s inability to maintain the required over rate added to their on-field concerns in what proved to be a challenging outing for the bowling unit.
The ICC has increased scrutiny of over-rate violations in recent months, reiterating its commitment to ensuring smooth match flow and timely completion of games.
