In an extraordinary display of commitment and passion, Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza played a key role in Lahore Qalandars’ thrilling victory in the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, despite arriving at the stadium just ten minutes before the toss.
Raza, who was representing Zimbabwe in a Test match against England just a day earlier, undertook a gruelling journey involving three flights.
"Bowled 25 overs [in the Test] the day before yesterday, batted for 20 overs yesterday. Had dinner in Birmingham, breakfast in Dubai, drove to Abu Dhabi for lunch, took a flight and had dinner in Pakistan. I guess this is the life of a professional cricketer and I'm truly humbled and blessed to have that life," he said in an interview.
Showing no signs of fatigue, 39-year-old Raza scored a rapid 22 runs off just 7 balls, including the winning shot, and also took Rilee Rossouw's wicket with his second delivery.
His performance was instrumental in Lahore Qalandars chasing down a daunting target of 202 runs, sealing their third PSL title.
In the final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Quetta Gladiators won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a competitive total of 201 for 9 in their 20 overs.
Lahore Qalandars chased the target down on the fifth ball of the final over, thanks to the composed innings by Sri Lankan Kusal Perera and the explosive cameo from Raza.
Perera remained unbeaten with 62 runs, anchoring the chase, while Raza’s late blitz ensured Lahore crossed the finish line in dramatic fashion.
With this victory, Lahore Qalandars lifted the PSL trophy for the third time, and Sikandar Raza etched his name in the league's history as a symbol of unmatched commitment and professionalism.
