Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi says he would seek Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's approval for allowing spectators at the ongoing Pakistan Super League matches.
Speaking to reporters in Karachi, Naqvi said, “I will once again speak to the prime minister about the crowd,” adding that the board would make every effort to bring fans back into stadiums. However, he noted that the situation must be viewed in the context of the ongoing global crisis linked to the Middle East conflict.
His remarks come days after the PCB announced that PSL matches would be held without spectators as part of the government’s austerity measures amid the regional situation. At the time, Naqvi said the tournament would be restricted to two venues — Karachi and Lahore — to limit public movement.
Naqvi also praised law enforcement agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament despite the challenges. While he expressed hope about spectators returning, he ruled out any change to the PSL schedule.
He added that franchises would receive gate money, with the PCB covering related expenses. The chairman also said the board was considering plans to review and possibly rebuild the National Bank Cricket Arena to improve facilities.
