Only one athlete will represent Pakistan at the upcoming Paralympics, as Haider Ali, the gold medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, departed for Paris on Monday.

Haider Ali will participate in the discus throw event, aiming to bring home another medal for his country.

Ali, a resident of Gujranwala, left for Paris with his coach, Akbar Ali. This will be his fifth appearance at a Paralympic Games event.

The Paralympics are set to commence on August 28, and Haider Ali will compete in the F37 category for discus throw on September 6.

In Tokyo Paralympics 2020, Ali clinched the gold medal with a throw of 55.26 meters.

His impressive record also includes a silver medal in the long jump at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and a bronze in the same event at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Yasir Pirzada announced on August 13 that Ali will represent Pakistan in the Paris Games.

He expressed confidence in Ali's abilities and commended his commitment and extraordinary skills.

Pirzada hoped Ali would once again secure a gold medal for Pakistan.

More than 4,000 athletes from 170 nations will compete in the Games, highlighting the talent of individuals with various physical disabilities.
