Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that Pakistan will emerge as strong contenders for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, primarily due to the advantage of playing on home soil.
The highly anticipated tournament, scheduled to begin on February 19, will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE.
As defending champions, Pakistan carries the momentum of their historic victory in the 2017 edition, where they defeated India in a stunning final at The Oval to claim their maiden Champions Trophy title.
Gavaskar emphasized the significance of home conditions, suggesting that Pakistan's familiarity with local pitches and environments could make them a formidable opponent.
The tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups, with matches held in Pakistan and the UAE.
Indian fans will see their team kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, followed by the much-anticipated clash with Pakistan on February 23.
Meanwhile, venues in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will host Pakistan's games, ensuring vibrant local support.
Gavaskar highlighted Pakistan’s resilience and strength at home, noting that it is always challenging to beat teams on their turf. Reflecting on India’s performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, he praised their consistency but maintained that Pakistan’s conditions offer a unique advantage.
The Champions Trophy 2025 represents a return of high-stakes international cricket to Pakistan, promising thrilling encounters and intense rivalries. The final, set for March 4 in Dubai, will crown the champions, with fans eagerly awaiting whether Pakistan can defend their title or if another nation will claim the glory.
