Pakistan fined 50pc of match fees, lose 11 WTC points over slow over-rate

Pakistan have been fined 50 per cent of their match fees and deducted 11 World Test Championship (WTC) points for a slow over-rate during the third and final Test against England in Birmingham, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday.

According to an ICC statement, Pakistan were found to have bowled 11 overs fewer than the required number after the time allowances available to them during the match were taken into account.

The sanction was imposed by Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with third umpire Allahudien Palekar and fourth umpire Russell Warren, the ICC said.

Under ICC rules, teams lose one WTC point for every over they are short of the required rate. Players are also fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time. The fine can go up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the match fee.

Following the penalty, Pakistan have dropped to the bottom of the World Test Championship standings with a points percentage of 4.63. They had previously been at the bottom with 14.81 per cent.

The Birmingham Test ended on Saturday, with England completing a 3-0 series sweep over Pakistan. England won the final Test by eight wickets.
