In the Group Two fixture of the Super 8 stage at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Pakistan have set England a target of 165 runs.
In the fifth Super 8 match, played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan elected to bat first and posted 164 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Pakistan’s innings began with Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub, but the side suffered early setbacks, losing their first wicket at 14 and the second at 27. Saim Ayub was dismissed for 7, while Salman Ali Agha departed for 5.
Babar Azam then steadied the innings alongside Sahibzada Farhan. The pair added 46 runs for the third wicket to take the total to 73, before Babar was dismissed for 25.
While wickets continued to fall at the other end, Farhan stood firm. He completed a well-compiled half-century and shared a 49-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Fakhar Zaman, taking the score to 122. Farhan was eventually dismissed for 63, an innings featuring seven fours and two sixes.
Following his departure, Pakistan again lost wickets at regular intervals. Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for 25 with the score at 132. At 146, two more wickets fell in quick succession, with Usman Khan scoring 8 and Mohammad Nawaz departing without troubling the scorers.
Pakistan lost their eighth wicket at 149 when Shaheen Afridi was caught on the boundary attempting a six after scoring 2.
Shadab Khan provided late impetus with a brisk unbeaten 23 off 11 deliveries, while Salman Mirza remained not out on 2.
For England, Liam Dawson claimed three wickets, while Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton took two apiece. Adil Rashid also picked up one wicket.
Pakistan therefore finished on 164 for 8 in 20 overs, setting England a target of 165 for victory.
