The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an austerity drive to cut costs of its operations.

As part of its drive, players training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) are now required to pay for their own meals unless they are part of an official training camp, according to a media report.

The cost-cutting initiative applies to all cricketers utilising the academy’s facilities independently, the report said, citing sources.

A senior PCB official said that all departments within the board have been instructed to cut down on non-essential spending.

“Every wing has been told to reduce unnecessary expenditure,” the official said.

Under the new guidelines, players who use the NCA facilities on their own will no longer be provided complimentary meals.

The decision is being seen as a major shift in policy, as the board looks to manage its budget more strictly without compromising core cricketing activities. Further measures may be introduced in the coming weeks as the austerity plan takes shape.
