US President Donald Trump suggested relocating the FIFA World Cup as part of his crackdown on Democratic-led cities, but FIFA stated that the matter will be decided by football’s governing body.

“If somebody is doing a bad job and if I feel there’s unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, who’s phenomenal, and I would say, let’s move it to another location. And he would do that,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked if games could be moved from Boston, one of the host cities.

Trump’s asserted these remarks just one day after he met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Egypt. They met at a summit focused on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, where Infantino was among more than two dozen world leaders gathered to discuss peace efforts in the Middle East.

The US president also suggested that, if necessary, events for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics could also be moved.

“I could say the same thing for the Olympics,” Trump said.“If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly, I would move it to another location.”

The World Cup tournament, featuring 38 teams, will be co-hosted by the United States and Mexico, with most of the matches taking place in the former.

Boston will host seven games, while six matches each will be played in Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, which will host eight games in total.
