American YouTuber faces trolling in India after covering cow dung festival

American YouTuber Tyler Oliveira faced intense trolling and online abuse in India after he uploaded a video documenting a cow dung festival held in a remote village in Karnataka following the Diwali celebrations.

Oliveira described his visit as a “sh*ttiest experience” and shared a short clip of his vlog on X, titled “I survived India’s poop-throwing festival.” The video quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and sparking a wave of criticism from Indian users who accused him of mocking local traditions.

In the video, Oliveira can be seen standing on a heap of cow dung while villagers enthusiastically hurl it at one another as part of the ritual. Despite appearing visibly uncomfortable, the YouTuber continued filming the chaotic celebration.

His post drew widespread attention across platforms, with one Reddit user commenting, “India’s PR got nuked. I don’t know how to defend my country anymore.”

Some Indian accounts called for Oliveira’s arrest, alleging that he confused the Diwali festivities with Gorehabba, the traditional cow dung festival celebrated in Karnataka. Trolls also targeted his family, circulating doctored images and offensive captions about his mother.

The controversy escalated further when several Indian users accused Oliveira of visiting India with financial support from Pakistan. Responding to the claim, he wrote on X, “Indians think Pakistan funded my trip to the poop festival.”

The Gorehabba festival is a unique post-Diwali celebration in parts of Karnataka, where locals joyfully fling cow dung at each other to mark the end of the harvest season. Videos of this year’s event have gone viral, drawing both amusement and criticism online.
