The murder of conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk has deeply divided public opinion. While many mourn his death and condemn political violence, others point to his history of controversial remarks on Islam, immigration, and Gaza, sparking a fierce debate across social media platforms.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk weighed in on the controversy, posting on X that “anyone who celebrates murder is evil.” His comment was seen as a rebuke to those justifying or mocking Kirk’s death. Musk himself, however, has faced criticism for frequently making inflammatory remarks about immigrants, Muslims, and Sharia law.

Controversial social media figure Andrew Tate expressed fear for his life after Charlie’s killing. 

Critics responded to the killing of 31-year-old Kirk by condemning the act of vi0lence, but also stressing that such condemnation and empathy should be universal. They pointed out that Palestinians, in particular, have long been dehumanised by Kirk and others who share his views.

Many have speculated that Israel may have benefited from Kirk’s death, or that Zionists may not have welcomed his changing views on Israeli policies.

Charlie Kirk, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem during an event titled Prove Me Wrong. The lecture drew nearly 3,000 attendees, and panic erupted when the gunman opened f!re from the rooftop, striking Kirk in the neck and sending the audience fleeing in chaos.

Authorities later recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle from nearby woods and released blurry images of a suspect described as college-aged. A reward of $100,000 was announced for information leading to the killer’s capture, as the FBI intensified its investigation into what officials called a targeted assassination.

The killing quickly took on political overtones. President Donald Trump, who described Kirk as a “great American patriot,” condemned the shooting as a heinous act and announced that Kirk would posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. 

Charlie Kirk was one of America’s most visible conservative youth leaders. As founder of Turning Point USA, he became a central figure in rallying young voters to Trump’s movement. But he was also a deeply polarising voice, often denying Palestinian suffering and attacking immigrants and Muslims in harsh terms.
