Australian journalist and pro-Palestine activist Robert Martin embraces Islam

Australian journalist and pro-Palestine activist Robert Martin recently announced that he has decided to convert to Islam.

In response to speculations on social media, Robert wrote on X, "The rumours are true, I've decided to embrace Islam. And I'm very much at peace with my decision."

Having first visited Palestine in 2014, Martin’s reporting became known worldwide as he exposed systematic human rights abuses against Palestinians by Israel.

He also re-shared a post from 2016 — shortly after his journey with Palestine began.

"It was the moment I realised I hadn’t just been misled about Palestine… I’d been misled about Islam and about Muslims as a whole. Looking back, I feel deeply sorry — and honestly embarrassed — that I carried so much ignorance for so long," he wrote.

Sharing an English translation of Holy Quran, the activist said that these books marked the beginning of a profound awakening for him. "A shift I never expected, but one that changed my life. I wasn’t a religious person — far from it — but I decided to actually learn about Islam," he added.

"And for anyone wanting to do the same, I can’t recommend enough getting a translation with commentary. It makes a world of difference. Islam isn’t something you just skim or read casually. It’s something you study, reflect on, and come to understand with an open heart."
