Bangladesh govt to take action against officials involved in internet closure: Nahid Islam

Bangladesh Adviser for posts, telecommunications, and information technology Nahid Islam said that action would be taken against the officials, involved in shutting down internet, during the recent student protests.

He sounded the warning, while talking to journalists on the maiden day of joining his office at the secretariat in the capital.

Nahid said that those responsible for the internet shutdown during the protests would face consequences.

‘The access to internet is a right and disrupting or shutting down internet services is a violation of human rights,’ he added.

The information and communication technology division plannned to incorporate youth participation to fulfil the aspirations of the young generation, the advisor said.

On Thursday, Nahid Islam was sworn in as an advisor to the interim government, serving as the key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement. 

Later, he was appointed an adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
