British-Palestinian doctor Rahmeh Aladwan, known for her outspoken criticism of Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, was arrested by UK police on Tuesday morning.

A video circulating on social media showed the 31-year-old being arrested by Metropolitan police officers at her residence.

In the video, a female officer informs her that she is being arrested for four offences: malicious communications times three, and for inciting racial hatred. She cites Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act and Section 127 of the Misuse of Public Communications Network as the basis for the arrest.

According to the officer, the charges are linked to a speech delivered by Aladwan on July 21 during a pro-Palestine protest held outside the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. The officer in the video referred to the address as having “amounted to calls for the eradication of Israel and implied support for all those involved in armed resistance against Israel, including organisations such as Hamas.”

Dr. Aladwan, who has been active in humanitarian advocacy for Palestinians in Gaza, has drawn attention online for her impassioned speeches and posts condemning Israel’s military actions.

Her arrest has sparked outrage on social media, with some users calling it an attack on free speech, while others argue that the law must be applied equally in cases involving potential incitement.
