Technical-level discussions between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place tomorrow in Burgenstock, Switzerland, under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Pakistan’s Foreign Office announced on Saturday.
The talks follow the recent signing of the Islamabad MoU and will involve representatives from the US and Iran, with Pakistan and Qatar participating as mediators. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the process and supporting efforts to implement the agreement.
Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry stated that Burgenstock is providing a neutral and discreet venue for the negotiations.
It added that diplomats from several countries are continuing efforts to preserve dialogue, but declined to disclose further details due to the confidential nature of the discussions.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance indicated that high-level negotiations with Iran could begin as early as Sunday. Speaking to Fox News, he said the talks would proceed once senior Iranian, Qatari, and Pakistani officials arrived. Vance noted that US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were already present, working on the technical aspects of the negotiations.
Expressing confidence in the durability of the current ceasefire, Vance said the United States believed it could maintain the truce despite possible disagreements over implementation. He also revealed that he might travel to Switzerland in the coming days to join the talks, describing the process as a delicate diplomatic effort requiring close coordination among all parties.
According to Vance, both Qatar and Pakistan are focused on ensuring that the negotiations are conducted appropriately. He added that President Donald Trump had extended an “outstretched hand” to Iran, suggesting that meaningful changes in Tehran’s conduct could pave the way for improved relations between the two countries. However, he emphasized that future progress largely depends on Iran’s actions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that an Iranian delegation would travel to Switzerland to pursue implementation of the commitments agreed upon by the other side. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran intends to ensure that all obligations are fulfilled and to clarify how the United States plans to meet its commitments.
Baghaei warned that failure to implement any part of the agreement could jeopardize the entire understanding. He stressed that Washington must take prompt action to honor its commitments or risk undermining the deal.
