Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that achieving lasting peace in Lebanon is impossible without recognising Iran’s role in the region. He stressed that Tehran remains a key player in efforts to promote stability and security across the Middle East.
According to Iranian media, Ghalibaf made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with senior Hezbollah official Mohammad Fneish, who is in the Iranian capital to attend the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The two officials discussed Lebanon’s current political and security situation, recent developments across the region, and the future of relations between Iran and Lebanon.
During the meeting, Ghalibaf reaffirmed Iran’s long-standing position of supporting regional stability, peace, and what it describes as resistance movements. He argued that any serious effort to secure sustainable peace in Lebanon must acknowledge Iran’s influence and involvement.
Iranian media also reported that Ghalibaf revealed Lebanon had featured among the key topics discussed during negotiations that took place before the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
He added that the region’s ongoing challenges can only be resolved through dialogue, regional cooperation, and mutual respect. Ghalibaf further emphasised that Lebanon’s stability is closely linked to wider peace and security across the Middle East.
Political analysts say the comments come at a time of increased diplomatic activity involving Iran, the United States, Lebanon, and Israel, with discussions continuing over the region’s future political and security arrangements.
