Lebanon’s Hezbollah launched a deadly drone attack on an Israeli army base, killing four IDF soldiers and injuring over 60 others as early warning systems failed to intercept the drones.
Israel confirmed that seven of its soldiers were critically wounded in the attack on Sunday, as “swarms of drones” targeted the Binyamina base of the Israeli occupation army.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack on the IDF’s Golani Brigade at a training camp located between Tel Aviv and Haifa.
The attack was carried out in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon on Thursday.
According to the BBC, this attack marks one of the massive military responses to Israeli aggression since its ground invasion of Lebanon began on October 1.
Israeli ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported that 61 people were injured, with three in critical condition.
Initially, Israeli media did not report the attack due to government restrictions, but details were later broadcast on television.
As per sources, Israeli soldiers were caught off guard, with many gathered in a communal canteen. Aftermath images showed a large hole in the roof of an empty mess hall.
Hezbollah’s drones were low-tech, primitive devices that bypassed early warning alarms in northern Israel.
From October 7, 2023, to October 4, 2024, at least 12,054 attacks have been exchanged between Lebanon and Israel, with 9,891 initiated by Israel, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED).
