The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that its Executive Board meeting to review Pakistan’s loan program is scheduled for May 9, dismissing calls from India to re-examine its lending to Islamabad.

IMF’s Resident Representative for Pakistan, Mahir Binici, stated that the upcoming meeting will present the first review of Pakistan’s current loan arrangement. He also noted that the board will consider Pakistan’s request for a climate financing program during the same session.

Earlier, India had urged the IMF to reassess its lending to Pakistan in light of rising regional tensions. However, Binici’s statement indicates that the IMF plans to proceed with its scheduled review.

The existing loan program is part of Pakistan’s efforts to stabilize its economy under IMF guidance. The country is also seeking additional support for climate resilience projects amid growing environmental challenges.
