The Indian police claimed to have arrested a gang involving two brothers who stole gold ornaments worth millions from a bank locker after their loan request was rejected.

The police said that the investigation revealed that two brothers were found involved in the robbery, as they had applied for a loan in the same bank and after being refused, they gathered their allies and robbed the bank.

The group, armed with the equipment, broke the window and gained entry to the bank. They then proceeded to the lockers and, using heavy tools, successfully opened a locker containing valuable gold ornaments.

The clever burglars not only stole the contents of the locker but also erased evidence by sprinkling chili powder around the area.

The incident took place at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in the Davangere district of Karnataka.

Addressing a press conference, Inspector General Police Ravi kant Gowda stated that a total of six individuals were involved in the incident. Despite the lack of physical evidence, all six were arrested.

“This was their first attempt at crime, but they have done all of these things very cleverly without leaving any evidence.”

The police said that “the main suspect has been running a bakery with his father for 20 years and applied for a loan from the bank two times last year.”

Refusal of loan requests multiple times prompted the brothers to commit a crime.

IGP Ravi Kant Gowda added that the suspect received training through various websites for a few months to commit the robbery.

The police investigation also revealed that the accused threw the items used in the robbery, such as hats, socks, gas cylinders and hydraulic cutters, into a nearby lake.
