A father in India welcomed his daughter, who got divorced from her husband, at home with grand celebrations, local media reported on Thursday.

A video circulating on social media showed a father warmly welcoming his daughter back home after divorce in the central-western part of India’s Uttar Pradesh state.

According to media reports, the woman’s in-laws reportedly tortured her for dowry, which led her to the decision to end relation with her husband.

The woman, identified as Urvi, has a daughter from her recently broken marriage.

“I have been enduring torture for eight years, they beat and taunt me every time. I have broken down,” she said while talking to Indian media.

“I tried hard to save my relationship,” Urvi added.

Urvi is a well-qualified woman and works as an engineer at New Dehli’s Palam Airport. She married a computer engineer in 2016.

Earlier, in October 2023, a man in India’s Jharkhand welcomed her daughter’s decision to divorce and arranged a barat on her return.
