Delegations from various countries chanted pro-Palestine slogans and staged a walkout in protest against Israeli officials during the 149th General Assembly session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
The IPU is an organisation comprising national parliaments from across the globe. Members of parliament gathered for a General Assembly session on Tuesday, where chants of “Free Palestine” echoed through the hall.
A video of the session, showing attendees expressing solidarity with Palestinians, surfaced online.
As Benjamin Netanyahu’s government continues the genocide of Palestinians, this act served as a powerful symbol of disapproval of the occupation army’s war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
However, despite such actions, UN organisations have been unable to stop Israel from committing grave human rights violations against innocent Palestinians.
Northern Gaza has been under siege by the IDF for 12 days, enduring relentless bombardment on hospitals, schools, shelters, and refugee camps.
Artillery, drones, and ground explosives are being employed by the Israeli army to destroy residential buildings and infrastructure in northern Gaza.
The Israeli army has intensified its attacks on the enclave despite the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to cease military operations in the Gaza Strip.
The overall Palestinian death toll since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza has reached at least 42,979 with more than 98,464 wounded. Thousands more remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
