Iran has informed regional countries that it is preparing to launch a powerful attack on Israel using advanced weaponry, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal citing Arab and Iranian officials.
This warning from Iran comes as the US has warned Iran that it would be unable to prevent Israel from retaliating in the event of an imminent Iranian attack.
The WSJ report stated that Iran briefed Arab officials on these plans, though it is unclear whether these threats are serious or simply a show of strength from Tehran.
Iran reportedly told Arab diplomats that its armed forces, along with paramilitary units, would be involved in delivering a powerful response.
An Egyptian official, cited by the American newspaper, said that Iran privately warned of a "strong and complex" retaliation, stating that Iran’s military had suffered losses and felt compelled to respond.
Meanwhile, Western officials suggested that Iranian decision-makers are still debating the nature and scale of their response to Israel, considering both direct action and possible use of proxy forces outside Iran.
They further speculated that Iran might use Iraqi territory to launch an operation against Israel, potentially targeting Israeli military installations in a more aggressive move.
In a speech in Tehran on Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reiterated that Iran would deliver a strong response to any Israeli attack.
According to The New York Times, three Iranian officials reported that Khamenei instructed military leaders that Israel’s aggression cannot be ignored.
As per reports. Iran is preparing for a reprisal that could involve drone and missile strikes launched from Iraq.
Explosions echoed across Iran on October 26 night as Israel launched projectiles from over 100 aircraft targeting "means of producing missiles."
Following the attacks, a viral video showed Iran's air defence system activating, intercepting several Israeli projectiles.
The Israeli offensive, which targeted 20 sites across Iran, lasted several hours and concluded around 5am local time (02:30 GMT), IDF officials told The New York Times.
The Israeli attacks occurred after Iran fired around 200 missiles across Israel on October 1 in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah's founding member Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and the assassinations of top IRGC military commanders.
